About Muiri Estate

Established in 1976 and named after the African “Muiri” tree in the Kikuyu language, this well-developed estate is a model of sustainable farming. Spanning acres of fertile volcanic soils, the estate features over 156,000 coffee trees, primarily SL28, SL34, K7, and Ruiru 11 varieties, alongside a variety of native and shade trees like eucalyptus, silver oak, and neem. Muiri Estate includes a wet mill, a large dam, storehouses, and cottages to house its workers during peak harvest, reflecting its commitment to both quality and community.

Roasting Excellence

At Artizan Coffee, we use the advanced “split-roasting” technique to bring out the best in this estate coffee. A portion of the beans is roasted lighter to highlight delicate flavors and aromas, while the rest is roasted darker to add body and intensity. This meticulous, time-intensive process ensures a coffee experience that is both balanced and nuanced.
